In switzerland, they require you to do power controlled power slides before you can obtain you license. Drivers ed lasts about 2 years, and some of it is done on a race track in a race suit and harness and what not....I don't think Americans are competent enough to do that though....

Offroad morons edition:

The following was at a Nissan event in Moab a few years ago. Guy wouldn't listen to what our spotter told him to do after not even being involved in our group and going down there and asking for help anyway. Tried to help him, but wouldn't listen, would listen to his friend who was "spotting" him from right beside the Jeep. Also included, what not to do with a winch cable. I think the guy still has ankle issues.

I'll start with a great driver:
YouTube - Ken Block Gymkhana Training (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkNzkutTiGs)
Those videos are fun to watch, but they are just compilations of multiple takes, no single drives. Sure, Ken is a good driver that has no fear, but I wouldn't call him great. He's all flash, no glory though. Rumor has it that Ford is planning to run him in WRC? (I haven't really looked into it, just something I saw on another forum) If that's true, he won't last long. He doesn't have what it takes to actually do good in WRC.
Here are some great drivers in history of rally:
Colin McRae
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPGZWMdy3Ls
Ari Vatanen
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKgeCQGu_ug
Good stuff though :thunb:

Gotta love a Finnish driver. Ari Vatanen is probably going to be the next President of the FIA too (between him and Jean Todt, former boss of Ferrari F1 devision). Will certainly be a breath of fresh air, after the Nazi fethishist a-hole Max Moseley finally resigns (yes, he was caught with prostitute dominatrix girls dressed as Nazi's on video).
RIP Colin Mxrea too. Stunning driver, and from what I hear, you won't find a more gracious and kind dude. Check out the x-games where he rolled his subbie over in the last part of the course. Onto the roof, side, back onto the wheels, and kept driving, and was only .11 seconds behind Travis Pastrana for a second place finish. Pretty badass.

And this little storm is going to underline that last point. I was just telling LaDawn that this kind of storm essentially shuts Denver down and there is probably going to a major multi car pile up somewhere because people simply forgot how to drive in crap weather...Or some dumbass in his new 4x SUV thinks he can go (and stop) at 65 or 70 on the highway. Best time of year coming to grab some good deals on near new parts, too!
Driving in this state you would swear that people mail order their licenses...

Yeah just engage 4-Wheel Slide and you'll be good to go!
It's amazingly simple to drive in this kind of weather - slow down, leave MUCH more space between vehicles (much because most people don't leave enough in the first place for dry roads), and brake softer. Oh and leave earlier.
And don't be like the dumbass I just saw when I was out getting lunch.
Entire rear window covered by at least 2 inches of snow. Drivers side mirror completely caked in snow. Only clear rear view was from passenger side mirror.

Naw man.....he can still see....trust me, that civic in his radiator is supposed to be there, it came with the package.

This morning I had a guy off of the road by me so I stopped to see if he needed a tug back on the road. He said "sure" and I walked around his Civic to see his driver's side front wheel at a nasty angle. I told him I couldn't help him and that he needed a tow truck. He asked why and I showed him. He looked at the wheel and saw what he'd done, eyes popping out of his head.
I gave him a ride to the local garage and saw his tracks going from one side to the other all the way up the street. I said "Looks like you were having fun" but he didn't say anything. Probably wondering how bad a whooping he was in for.

Not as bad as those lazy enough to only uncover 1/3 of their windshield. People laugh at me when I meticulously brush off all the snow from hood, roof, and the trunk, but it just makes sense. It always amazes me that some people just don't get the concept of blowing snow over their windshield, or the snow sliding down off their roof at the wrong moment. We should be able to legally pull these people out of their cars and ***** slap them stupid!

One thing I like about driving the Xterra with the MTR's on it is when there is a lot of snow on the roads people won't tailgate me.
Because it tosses snow and slush back on their car lol.

Watching Block there he's pretty decent at drifting and stunting but even watching his "training" vid, you can see him missing his mark. also going sideways =/= going fast. I agree with a previous post; put hin in a real racing/rally situation and he'd be eatten up. McRae was a GREAT driver, watched him on the WRC circuit.

Ken Block competes in the American rally series, and does pretty well. Its certainly nothing compared to the WRC series and he certainly would get his ass handed to him if he did join the WRC. Then again, most of the WRC guys have been driving some form of motor vehicle since they could see over the dash and reach the pedals. He's not bad for someone who managed to make something of himself enough to afford to go rallying. He certainly fits the bill for "more balls then sense", which seems to be a must for any rally driver.

Anyone happen to notice in the 4x4 videos the correlation between the right foot action and the accidents?
I think that rally drivers have to to be some of the best all round drivers in the world. Love that Rally stuff. Loved the Class B cars. Hated the limp ****s that banned the B cars. Rally guys like fast cars. Give them fast cars. If spectators happen to get too damn close and get munched, that, to me, is natural selection. If drivers get toasted driving an 800hp rally car, hell..no one made them get into the thing...
Ah...but then I think football would be worth watching if it was played like the scene in "The Last Boy Scout"...hand weapons should be allowed:D ..the more medieval, the better...It wouldn't be so terminally boring at any rate...
