What a fun trail run this was! Thank you Stephanie, Ricardo, Randy, Ron, Chris and everyone else who helped me with this! The turn out was awesome, there were maybe 20 rigs on this trail run. Parts of the trail were snow packed and icy, muddy and other areas were dry. Because of the snow I think this is more of a moderate trail. There were a few spots that some had a hard time getting through, moreso toward the end of the the day, I'm not sure what part of the trail it was but there was enough pull power to help! I took some pictures too, but my usb cord to my camera is damaged. I will post them as soon as I get a new one. I think others were snappin photos though!

It was really great to meet everyone who showed up and overall it was a really fun time and I am looking forward to doing it again!! :D

Kepi, just to let you know - I'm very jealous that you all had a good day! My wife wouldn't let me join you all, so mine kinda sucked  (mostly becuse I was wishing I was in the mountains!) One of these days... I will make it to a trail run with the Subie, I promise!!! (time to get a job and myself MY trail rig )

What a fun trip. I had to chain up. Especially coming back down was soooo icy...but the chains dug into the ice on the way back.

Dont forget --- about the possibility of another Sunday Run next weekend...

Yes. I came down with a group of 7 which included Dr. Unit, the guys in the white toyota pickup (forget the names, they live right next to Rob) and Crispy. After airing up, I made radio contact with the rest of the group and they were on their way down the mountain.

Lots of fun and a great group. A lot different from last week's snow run on Ironclads. More snow on Yankee Hill, I think, but not as steep and rocky as Ironclads. Second run for the 40 and it did great again.

I shot a few pics, but it'll be a few before I can post. :princess: just got home and it's dinner time.

Glad to see you got home dude. We weren't sure where you got to after you split up from the rest of the group.

It was a great day, and a huge turnout. Guess thats what happens when two clubs do a trip together. Never seen that many Land Cruisers/Toyotas on one trip before. Cool to see some other rigs thrown in for good measure too, complete with one of the most abused but loved XJ's I have ever seen. The dude litterally had a door hanging off, and more dents then I've seen in a long time.

We had a great time, and got to play in a bunch of different places. I tried pretty hard to get up the quarry rock wall thing, and tried pretty hard to get through the snow drift at the end too. Honestly, it wasn't too bad snow and slippery wise, unless you sunk in deep somewhere. Maybe I'm just used to it, but it seemed like unless you were on the brakes or accelerating a lot, I hardly lost traction. Pretty thrilled with how my BFG MT KM's are doing. Was a bit concerned they would suck in the snow, but they are doing really well on all the snow runs so far. Glad I don't have to worry about replacing them till a later date when I have more money.

I totally spaced bringing the camera, so I'll have to be "that guy" again, and just beg for pics of myself. I brought the battery charger for it, but pulled an idiot move and forgot the camera itself:lol:. It was cool to meet some of the Rising Sun guys, who in general were very cool and awesome to wheel with. Sthmstr and I ended up going out for drinks and stuff after the run. One of the FJ40's overheated on Floyd Hill, after having his rear driveshaft slip yoke fall apart at the "parking area" halfway down the trail. Otherwise, no carnage I saw, despite some "crazy antics" at the big snow drift at the top of the trail (greenmachine, that would be you, among others:thunb:).

I think that's everyone except Charlie and Bill (mr6dwg). They showed up just as we were lining up for the run.

I don't think it was a matter of losing traction. Your right rear tire was up against a vertical rock face taller than your tire.

It started to climb a few times, but then got tippy. I'm pretty sure I could make it up that if I had aired down or had stickier compound tires. Didn't help that there is nothing to grip on above besides dirt and a small rock ledge.

Yeah, could be right on the count. At that point I count 18 rigs, plus Charlie and Bill, plus Rudy, who we met further up the trail. So yeak, 21 rigs it is. Only run I have been on that had more was the FR4x4 Anniversary Run, which I think had upwards of 30 rigs. Not bad for a 1 year anniversary. I bet there will be more this year though. Could be fun trying to find a place that will fit that many rigs well huh?

Gee, Path, we had a horrible time. What makes you think it was fun?

I met the guy in the TT, Kenny, last year on MSV and have run into him a couple times since. I think he mostly wheels with Rising Sun.

I didn't see any FJCs try the drift (none had big enough tires). I took a line to the right that looked packed down but my front end sank about 15 feet up it. FJBrady was the only one who made it while I was up there, and he had two ATV's yank him the last 5 feet. He was that close to dirt when he bogged down.

You did miss a good time, but there will be more in the future right?

None of the FJC's tried the snow bank. At that point, only one was there, and he was taking it easy. Quite a few people made it to the Quarry and turned around, even though there was more fun to be had.

The Trail Teams one looked cool, and I like the Color scheme, but I would take your rig over his. Still have to put decent bumpers on and stuff like that. Doesn't seem worth the extra $5000 or more over the normal one with the basic "convienience package", when its largely a "image" thing and not a performance thing.

To each his own, I prefer the steel wheels you have on now. The TRD ones are neat wheels though, but not worth how much Toyota wants for them. Would be a shame to put the inevitable rock rash on those. You would be rolling in style though huh?

If you really dig em, I bet you could find some take off ones for not too much. Even could go as far as to get the normal silver ones and paint em black.

Yep, I think you can get the silver TRD's for $125/wheel...then paint em black. If your gonna wheel with them they will need to be touched up eventually anyway. Might as well rattle can the silver one's and save some $$$$.

Personally I prefer around 5 rigs, but definitely under 10.

And yet having this many rigs never presented an issue. The group moved right along on the trail. No one got stuck prior to the big snow bank except for when Bruiser tried to show off and do the icey hill in 2WD. You didn't think I was going to let that one by did you Justin?

It was a great opportunity for some of the less experienced folks to get some wheel time in on packed snow and ice and see just how capable their rigs really are. I bet they have a lot more confidence today than before the run yesterday.

FJBrady showed us that white FJ40's really do know how to fly. If he'd of had a set of horns and red nose on his hood he probably could've made it the last 10 feet without the ATV's help.

In large part things moved along well because we had great assistance from several in the group and very strong communication. I really appreciate :thunb: all the people in the group that willingly lent a hand in getting the group safely through the couple of spots where it might have been a bit tricky.

Cheapest set of black TRDs on ebay is $1400. I think not.

People here know how much I like playing with rattle can...the spare is now black and both the front and rear bumpers have a layer of rubberized undercoating on them. Sorry, hijack off :-)

lol yeah I'll get the pics sent this afternoon when I get home.

With the nerd thing, bein a guy with 2 Starwars tattoo's kinda tough to hide the nerdisms. :-)

At least you are the right kind of Sci Fi geek, unless those tatoo's are of Anikan Skywalker, in which case I'm never talking to you again. Definetly better to be a Star Wars guy then a Treky or LOR fanatic (like both of them, but Star Wars is far superior).

Cool, someone who will understand my references. I once asked my boss, "what is thy bidding my master?" and he just looked at me like I had lost my mind.

Even though the Left Hand Canyon run is not officially on the calendar for this Sunday @ 130 -- we have 8 that expressed an interest in going possibly SNOW WHEELIN..New snow is in the forecast for Friday and Saturday. :thunb: Anyone else interested for a Sunday afternoon run?

CR i hardly recognize your rig when its not slashed with mud up on the sides!
My truck rarely sees clean water. I sort of like the look of the brown rally graphics. Hope to see you on the next one!:drive:

Really? Nobody got it? That's one of my favorite lines besides: "what a lovely smell you've discovered, Princess", oh well. They can't all be quote spittin champs like us. :-)

I love that part of Clerks II !!! I rep the slightly cooler side of nerdy haha

If you rule out the "meeting" White Collar Redneck and I had on the first hill, I had a great day. That is really the first snow day I have experienced. I look forward to doing that again. On a side note, one of my neighbors came over, we removed the door and made it look good enough for me to go to bed that night. Anyway, here are the pictures that I took. Thanks for the fun day.

The "meeting" happened as follows...

we were the last 5 rigs of the 21 rigs -- one of the guys got 2/3 up ICEY hill and started sliding backwards...Mr6 was in front of me...by about 30 feet...I got stuck in an icey "ditch" leaning to my side --- i could neither go backwards nor forwards....two rigs behind me were too close to me to even back up if i could.....Unfortunately---with me being stuck and the guy uphill from MR6....the hill was 95% ice --- not at anyones fault -- Mr6 hit all ice...slid back about 30 feet into my stinger...:erm:...scarred the crap out of my kids and I....my stinger hit Mr6 door latch and bent it in:eek:

eventhough the meeting was nobodys fault -- i said to Mr6 over and over again How bad I felt for the damage because this was his first wheelin trip

..without chains that section was so slippery / icey -- "meeting" was about to happen.

Just wanted to post up and say it was nice meeting new peeps and i had a blast with everyone. DrUnit it was good to see you again. If you need any help with anything give me a hollers. Or just want to get out. Pathrat you cant have my wheels. sorry no way. And i don't want to nick them up either. Been working real hard on that one. As far as the comment goes for the extra money for the Trail Team when i sat down and figured out what it would of cost me to put the tires on it i wanted with wheels and a few add ons it was going to cost more that a non TT FJC so i made out. It helped to have a coworker's brother help me find it and work out a deal also. I won't take it on the nasty stuff but will get it out. I have a toy in the works for the fun stuff. Had a great time in the snow with everyone and glad everyone got home safe. Oh and i think it was Haku in the xtra cab that was playing in the big hole i was trying to help spot. Your wheel base was just to perfect. Both front and back tires were hitting the wall of rock at the same time. Only way is to hammer it and pray. Just like Double Wammy in Moab. Well it was a blast and i look forward to next time. see everyone on the trails.

New seats? You're not supposed to be comfortable in a 40. You're supposed to wait for the vinyl to split, then rip out the foam and sit on the coils. What are you thinking? :lmao:
