If you're gonna do something I'd say just go ahead and get a tube bumper made.

Well, the first thing that came to mind was...hmmmmm...then hmmmm again..

How wide is the plate that you have and where does the back of it fall in relation to where the radiator is? Just trying to get an idea of dimension here...

First of all, it isn't a disaster...though the original mount left something to be desired...you can sleeve or wrap the frame rails if you need more room for a winch..not a big deal. Whether you do or don't, you can weld (I know that you can't..just talking here) angle to the sides of the frame, using something a little more substantial that the cut off shock tower or whatever it is on there now, to bolt or weld the winch plate to. Mount the winch plate inside the frame rails and level with the bottom of the frame rails. This strengthens the whole front of the frame, keeps the winch up high enough and, if you are lucky, lets the winch clear the radiator.Looking at it, you may also want to get some sort of back plate/frame brace going on to support the back of the winch, something I like to do with bigger rigs.

First things first, though, is to get a winch mount plate. This is usually the basis for building any kind of bumper anyway.

i think it hangs down to low and if you pulled on it hard it might make a mess of the end of the frame. I would tuck it up higher and most likely switch to a custom built bumper. The one Pete and Sean did on that bronco was pretty sweet.

pete pretty much hit my plan dead on the nose. i want to do something about the crumple frame and im taking thr plate off cause i saw that the welds are bout to give. so im tryin to get some steel to do this but i still need help welding or if some1 can teach me.and im going to sell the bumper to fund the new bumper.

Can do and a nice design on the bumper, too. Straight forward, solid looking, good approach, etc. I would use the same overall design, but beef the winch mount quite a bit more.

Yeah...just give me a shout when you have time and we can get together on this:

Here is a plate bumper I did on a 96 Bronco that has the same type frame section. Just to give you some more ideas, but I do like that Tubular bumper.
