I have an odd request. I want to upgrade my bicycle lights. I don't want to drop the big $$$$ on the factory bought items. I have a couple of different set ups but they are all... Well in need of more. I want to have longer run times and LED's Can someone here help me with getting this started.. please?

www.bikeforums.net is a great place.
I recently bought a Fenix flashlight, with a twofish holder. $70 total, runs on 2 AA batteries(I use rechargables), and has a 3 hour runtime on turbo mode(~180lumens). Added benefit is that I can just take the flashlight off the bar, and walk away with it! Though I do want a hub-dynamo, and hardwired LED lights.

Yeah I am a member there and on www.mtbr.com I guess a lot of people I would ask live states away and I was looking for more of a mentor type that could phisically show me. Self learning and internet learning is fun... but I like a little help through the first one. I want 500+ lumens and no less than 3.5 hr run time.

 That's a lot of light!
I read that the E3 Supernova puts a lot of light out. Have you looked at Peter White's site? He has a lot of good lighting info there, with pictures.

The Supernova E3 triple is probably right up your alley:

I made a light out of landscaping light with 24 AA batteries that runs for two hours. If you put in a dimmer switch you could probably get 3-3.5 hours out of it if you dim it on climbs and then crank it up for the downhill.
It's not super light and it's also halogen, so I know that is not what you are looking for, but I like the light that halogens throw, it seems to give better depth perception than HIDs or LEDs. I made the whole thing for about $100 total, it's as bright as my HID light and will always give me at least 2 hours. All you really need is a soldering iron, hot glue gun and a dremel helps too.
I also made another pack of 12 AA batteries that will give me another hour in a pinch. I wrote it up on mtbr, I put the link below-PM me if you would like more info.

Ah yes, the Pond Scum light... LOL.. I have thought about that. I am really considering buying the Amoeba from SCAR. He does a hell of a good job and I have seen them in person. But I would also like to learn on what I have. More lights is fine with me.
BTW Nice build! :thunb:

Well if you can build something yourself, I know where you can get lights.
CREE:
http://ledsupply.com/creemce.php
You need some soldering skills and you need to put them on a heatsink so they don't burn up, but you can get stuf there.
They also have a lot of other stuff. $30 for the 430 lumen LED.
They even have the optics and such.

I was looking at that last night, I am going to see if I can adapt this to my old light somehow!
