OK. Talked to the Fiance, Everything sounds good for Sunday. Lets make it official. Sounds like there's interest from both North and South so lets make the meeting ground in the middle somewhere. Any ideas?

The Boulder Ranger District site lists Bunce as closed, though it's been wrong before. You can call 303-541-2500 to see if it's open or closed (you'll get a recording after hours, though that's not always accurate, either).
If you want to stay in the area, you might want to try Johnny Park or Pole Hill.

I'm with you Rob. Never can trust thos sites, or recordings for that matter.
There are other trails close by, just in case.

I would believe a "closed" over an "open," though, at least this time of the year, when they close a road but don't post it as closed right way. I'd be inclined to think it's the opposite in the spring, when they open a road but don't list it as open right way. You should call the FS office during work hours and get the info from a live person. Then you'd be 90 percent sure of getting a right answer.

The meeting spot we had last time wasn't too bad. Either that gas station in Lyons or the Safeway in Boulder.
Still....need to talk to the pops

Josh.. You in for this?
You mean me? I might be up for it, especially if we poke our noses further in and do Ironclads or Plane Crash too. I imagine there will still be a bit of snow and ice up there, but it shouldn't be too bad. I'll wait for word on whether its closed or not.

So I spoke with a live person at the Ranger District. Bunce is only closed between 216 and Peaceful Valley. So we can most definatley do Ironclads and any other exploring before the gate. Also, If we have time we can cross hwy 7 and go check out the overlook up Taylor MT. I like the idea of a meeting place at the U pump it in Lyons. This is the one on the north side of the road when you are getting into lyons. There is more parking here than at the one by Ace. Put up your RSVP's if your going. Thanks!:D

anyone know what the current snow conditions are like? I still don't have any chains, and can't seem to find any. I really don't wanna end up in Winky's postion, my winch is faster and draws less though :-P. What do you guys think?
Mporter
November 27th, 2009, 08:18 AM
for sunday: high of 28, low of 18, 40% chance of precipitation, and snow showers expected
I heard the snow was supposed to be light though.

it looks like it's been warm for the most part all week, so shouldn't be a whole bunch of standing snow as we speak.

Okay I'm pretty sure I can come.
What meeting time/place or whatnot for me? I'm up North so not sure where I'll be coming in from - I'm not sure where the trailhead is. I'll have to look it up.

Okay I looked at a map. This is near where I go camping a lot. I'll be coming through Lyons on Hwy 7. I think there is a decent pull-out around that area to meet up at? But not sure. Let me know what time I should be in that area.

Last time we met up at the U Pump it off Hwy 7

No, I think it was the Diamond Shamrock. The U Pump It is on the other side of the road and a few hundred feet closer to Lyons. Either one is a good place to meet; just make sure everyone's on the same page.

well im gonna let CR decide this one since he's the organizer.
I think a gas station would be best since we can fill up before hitting the trail

Any one going on this, lets meet at the U-pump-it on Hwy 66. This is on the north side of the road at Stone Canyon Dr. From I-25 take exit 243 Hwy 66 towards Lyons. Go through Longmont. Start looking for the U-Pump-It on the right after you pass hwy 36.

So I peeked into Ironclads this morning. The trail is icy in the shade but dry where the sun shines through. Probably only a couple of hills to worry about. Looks like we'll have good conditions tomorrow.:D
