Check out this link for some photos of some fun off-roading in Alaska. If you like water crossings, you'll like these. I could do a trip up there sometime, just not in the near future.

Yeah, lots of great pics there. A tidbit; the 4th pic on this page (http://www.realcruiser.com/rescue/rescue.html) is Mark Whatley's atavar on 'Mud. I don't subscribe any more but Mark was the tech writer for Toyota Trails magazine.

I'd love to, sometime in the next few years. Figure we'd need a good two weeks to do it. That'll take some planning and some cash. But I'm going to start checking into it.

That river starts at the end of Knik glacier. I have driven past it many times. I have never done that trail for two reason...

first, unless you go with someone who knows the area very well and the times to go and NOT to go you could wind up with your rig being washed away, like the vid above. It happens.

second and the bigger reason because that is a glacial river the "mud" is a very fine sediment that comes from the ice grinding the rocks underneath to dust. that silt is VERY fine and it will work it's way into any seal, bearing, and joint on your truck. It's a serious pain to get out, and will almost always cut the life of any part submerged in that water drastically!

however in the winter time when everything freezes over...oh hell ya! you can actually drive right up to and park on knik glacier! it's way cool!

You've got a 40 Rob, just join in on the Alaska Cruiser Trek which is limited to Land Cruisers. ;)
