Need some assistance with something. In the spirit of the Gowheelin.net thread, I decided to start my own wiki page for trails, as I run them. Since I already have space, and the install of the wiki software was free, I figured might as well.
I'd say I'm about medium on knowledge of software though. I can certainly make a site and all, but I've never used wiki software before. So any help that can be provided, I'd greatly appreciate it.
www.rockymountaintrails.info is the site. My current question would be, how the heck do I add a page?
And if this thread needs to be moved elsewhere, I understand, wasn't entirely sure where to put it.

You just create a link to a non-existant page and then edit it. E.g., add text like this to the front page,
This is a link to a new page for [[Bunce School Road]].
The link for "Bunce School Road" should show up differently. Click on that and you should be editing the new page (or something like that).
See this page,

Moved to chat. ;)
Yep, like Charles said. I added a "new page" for you using [[new page]]

Ah, thank you much.
It appears as though you do not need to make an account to change things then, correct? I want to change this, so only a registered user can change things, but I can't seem to find the way to do it either. Bah.

Right but I can't remember how to limit users that can edit. When I tried this concept with Aaron's help I think I had it integrated with the forum using the same permissions.
Sounds like time to read the docs. ;)

Ok, based on this page (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:$wgGroupPermissions), I need to add some lines to my localsettings.php file, correct? There is no reference to the $wgGroupPermissions in it currently.
Assuming this to be true, and if I did it correctly, you should not be able to edit a page as a random user now. You should have to create an account now... but I can't test it, because I'm at work, and only have access to the config files, because our system blocks my actual site(I have access to the host side of things though). So if anyone is looking for something to do, let me know... :)

Looks like you got it! I can only get to the create account/log in page. :thunb:

Sweetness!
Ok, while I get this going, I welcome anyone that wants to register and help me in this venture. If there is any trail you've run, I would be very happy if you'd post it up in a new page, or modify any current page. Hell, I don't care if you went out and ran FS road XXX that isn't officially any type of trail. If you want to add it, that'd be great.

Good luck with this but I wouldn't hold out much hope for participation which is what Aaron & I found out when we tried to run the same thing on this site. ;)

What do you think of this format?

And anything you would add/delete/change?

This is a cool idea. With a Wiki, anyone can update the trail conditions.
I'm curious if you could just leave that one section (Current Conditions) open for edits by anyone?

Can you add attachments like maps?

I can lock it down, so only conditions is editable, yes. At least, from what I've read and seen, that is my impression. For right now, it is completely open though, until it gets some actual information.
Can you add attachments like maps?
I'm sure I can, but I haven't gotten that far yet.
