I totally agree, sad thing is it was the same friend twice. He replaced my door, but his replacement sucks, and he refused to help pay for any repairs, so needless to say hes on the **** list

Sounds really close to what I did with the engine on the Ford I had. I have only one suggestion, though:
When you do the dual exhausts, make sure that you do a cross over pipe as close to the engine as you can get it.

So i had work last saturday and sunday. And i was hoping to catch up on my build. But i have just been informed i am working Friday Saturday and Sunday again this weekend. I had all the free time in the world, and all i did was sit there and do research and figure out my parts and where i was getting my block done at and such. Then it comes time to put the plan into action, and i've been stuck at work. this project is off to a great start....:erm:

Very true, and i am saving up for a house of my own at the moment so u can get out of my parents place. Granted my dad said i can live here until i complete my apprenticeship at work in 2012. So most bills arent a big concern, but saving for the day i move is. But i am also trying to get my trucks done before i move. so the likely hood of being able to keep them is higher

Granted my dad said i can live here until i complete my apprenticeship at work in 2012.
I forgot that some people still had that option and actually get along well enough with their parents to live there for a bit. I got along so famously with mine that I left home at 16 and didn't talk to either of them for about 6 years. And by that time I wasn't even living in the same state as they were. I managed to finish my senior year of high school living with a couple of other guys. I was the only guy not living at home in the whole school and the bane of every parent that had a daughter or two. It was party central at my house 24/7and I somehow managed to maintain a GPA of 3.8...go figure..I guess I didn't need too much sleep back then..
Nice that you have this option. Make the best of it.

My :princess: has finally saved up some money to start her first project. Its a 1988 Bronco II we picked up a while back for a case of beer. Figured thats not to bad of a deal. However because she has finally saved up some money to start her project, my 77 is getting put on the back burner. Which kinda sucks, but it is down for more extensive work than we are going to put into the BII. So it only seems logical to start on this one first because it will be our main trial rig for a while. We picked up a well priced 92 exploder to use for a donor. The plans are to rebuild the 4.0l and upgrade the a4ld to handle the 4.0l upgrades and just for peace of mind. As well as swap the 8.8, and Dana 35 to the B2 As from everything i know they are much better than the 7.5 and Dana 28 that are under it now. It currently has a 4inch skyjacker lift, but was lifted with blocks, which i hope to take out and order the proper springs. We also picked up an 87 B2 in good shape to help with cosmetic and gadgets such as power windows and such and a new rear hatch as well as an extra a4ld. I will try and post some pics of the donor exploder later this week. But here are a few of the B2.

I am hoping to have it trail ready late feb early march. all depends on the income over the next week or so to be honest. And a timely lay off to get some work done would help as well. But its life and work is work.

So yesterday i got to drive to Colorado Springs with my friend and the :princess: It was the only time the people we bought our parts explorer where free to hand over the keys title and all the fun stuff that goes with buying a car. The weather sucked as you all know. It turned what was supposed to be a 4 hour trip into a 9 hour trip. Saw a few wrecks, pushed a few cars out of traffic. And i was really impressed with my friends driving. Lack a better vehicle yesterday we chose his 2005 f150. Good news was he had a tow package, bad news, 2 wheel drive. It made the drive that much more fun. Overall there were a few close calls on the trip but only one that really got the pucker factor going. But in the end we got home safely and the explorer made the final 6 mile journey to my friends shop. Parked it at the :princess:'s house last night do to time and weather. He's a few pics of the parts car we picked up and from driving around. most pics didn't turn out well because they were taken with a cell phone.

Did a little moving around at the girlfriends house today. I have came to the conclusion that her parents either like me, or dont hate me near as much as i thought they did. They are tolerating my gfs and mine endeavor with this bronco II build better than expected. We have now stock piled and moved everything around to where we should be getting a good start on it this week, or next weekend. Heres a couple pics of the re arranging we did, and just a collection of the parts. Its turned into one of those projects where is taking 3 vehicles to make one nice one. Should be a wonderful build and adventure with the :princess:

Ha compared to me you gotta be a master. I am the same way man. I hate messing with electrical stuff on cars. It makes me real mad, and i am not to good at it. I chased a problem in my starting circuit in my 70 f100. I ended up replacing every component to the whole circuit and the volt regulator as well. turned out to be a bad ground. good news, dont gotta worry about a starting circuit for a while.:lmao:

So i am starting officially this next weekend. I realized i should of been at home working on one of the rigs rather than being up at pole hole. Granted it was a blast and way more fun then being at home. I gave myself a march first deadline. which is going to be really hard to meet. Unless my lazy-ass friends actually decide to come help like they say they will. I've more or less am tearing apart 3 cars to make one. So i am going to have to log a lot of hours. hopefully the timing with work and everything will work out right because i really want to get out on the trails in one of my rigs. if anyone gets bored next weekend and wants to help it would be cool. Can't offer much more than some soda and pizza as a reward though.

This weekend has some serious plans in it already. Me and a friend of mine are going to attempt to pull all 3 motors and transmissions this weekend. as well as get the explorer stripped down saving the good parts to sell or keep, and the rest hauled off to storage next week. Weekend after that we are going to attempt to finish parting out the 87 bronco ii. A long weekend ahead, lil sleep, lots of pizza and soda, and the occasional cuss word. Sounds like its going to be a blast

I have a very hard time when people say they are going to show up and don't show up or bother to call. It shows a real lack of respect and applies to everything. I had 'friends' that did this for climbing trips...plan for the trip, I'll be there, etc. and never showed. Most of the time I had my rope solo stuff with me, so I was able to climb anyway, but when I wanted to do a really hard climb, something I tone down a little rope soloing, it was a PITA. I simply stopped calling any of these folks to do things.

To be totally honest, i have a hard time with the no call no shows as well. I hate how they say they will be there and then they don't show. If you honestly have no interest in helping just say so, wouldn't hurt my feelings. Or if something comes up and you can't make it, give me a call. But apparently my friends are above that. Sorry for the rant. But i think i am going to do the same as Brody here, and just quit calling those people.

that is rediculous. How can you even try to pick up a car body with that small of trailer, with one axle and tiny tires? I would have told them to go by some blades, they can borrow my saw and chop it up themselves, but they own it now and it needs to be out by dark. Looks like you sure did a number on that thing though. Kind of looks like fun actually. Looks like your making some great progress

It was not the only response i had. Some stuff came up last weekend and the people who were originally going to pick it up called and canceled. So i put the ad back up, and got a bunch of responses and no one was willing to do this on a late Saturday afternoon or Sunday except this group of people.

Thats exactly what we thought. But we didn't have much choice because we needed that explorer out of the shop Sunday. The scrapers who came didn't even want to help us cut it apart. The only thing that kept us from teaching them the way things should be was we were able to vent our anger into cutting apart the explorer. It was pretty fun, probably would of been more fun if it wasn't under the gun type situation.

Yeah, don't waste money you can use for something better than an air tank. Check these guys out. They repair all sorts of tools and compressors and have a stack of tanks that they want to get rid of. You can get any one of a number of used air tanks ($5 worth of paint and it looks new) from them complete with switch, manifold and possibly fittings, for around $10. To me, spending big bucks for a new air tank would simply be a waste of money....
OBA Air Tank Source
I checked these guys out for Danny and got a good deal on a Rigid air tank set up. I got everything but the compressor itself: gauges, manifold, fittings, switch. The one I got for Danny cost me $10.
This company specializes in rebuilding air compressors and power tools of all makes. At the moment he has an overstock on used air tanks. Doug said to stop by and see what he has that you could use and to bring cash.

Not sure if this works for you or not, but if so let me know and we can figure out a price that works for both of us. Here is a link to it. Cross over?
Like run an X-pipe?
Yeah...like an X pipe...An simple pipe connecting the duals also works in an H configuration. It helps to balance the exhaust pressure between the two sides of the engine.

Huh....guess that's why there is a 'reply with quote' thing to keep things organized...The radiator link that I posted dealt with the bigger radiator swap, I think. I believe the 300ci was the Ford inline 6 which had the same reputation as the Jeep 258 inline 6...strong, durable, runs forever. I think that I have had a couple of those in the past as that is what Ford ran in the low end Falcon, Econoline vans, and about anything else they wanted a 6 in before they did the V6. Makes sense that a radiator designed for the 300 inline 6 and the smaller 302 V8 would cross over as they are only cooling 2 more cis...
Woke up more irritable than usual this morning....Oh well....
Cooling is a big issue for any engine swap, too. I ended up running a huge Griffin after market in the Yota after doing the 302 swap in that back in the mid 80s.
FYI...there are guys doing the 4.0LV6 swaps into IH Scouts...I didn't know this, but in looking for some of the electrical information, there were 3-4 links I spotted for this..Interesting..

yea, I dont know why I would step down from a 345 v8 to a 4.0 v6 though. Sounds like a lot of work for a smaller engine... yes its more modern and all that, but if I wanted modern I probably wouldnt have bought a scout! :lmao:

X2...that big 345 is a good engine and the Scouts aren't light. Post I started to read said that the smaller 6 pushed the Scout down the road just fine...I like big engines and can't see the reasoning behind the V6 conversion...you are just making the 6 banger work harder...

Yup the ford 300 I6 is a workhorse of a motor. They run great, forever, and really easy to work on. the only real complaint i have ever heard of with the 300 I6 is that the power band is all geared towards torque, and no matter how you build them, you can't get the HP up that high. Had one in 1994 F150, Damn thing would climb a tree, but it wouldn't get me anywhere fast.

I am new to these newer motors, and wouldn't mind someone there just to help me out and bullshit with for that extra confidence. Anyone who offers to help, be forewarned i am one of those guy who does everything down to the letter out of manuals, i take no short cuts and am very anal about it all. So if you can put up with that great!

That has got double overhead cams and a timing belt set up right? Not totally familiar with the 4.0L Ford, but it looks like the V6 3.4L I have in the Yota as far as basic set up. I have never ever messed with a double cam set up and have only done a few of the timing belt replacements on the newer V6s...

As far as i know its just a classic OHV set up with a single cam, not cool enough to be a DOHC. Real simple engine in reality. The part where i get nervous with rebuilds is when i start bolting the heads on, and checking the clearances for the rocker arms, and push roads and such. This will also be my first experience with hydro roller lifters, used to just regular hydros...

An answer is better than nothing, and i just got laid off today as expected, so at least now i will have some time to get some other stuff taken care of.

bummer. I know what thats like. Nice thing is you have all the time in the world to work on stuff, unfortunately you no longer have the money for it.

yeah very true, i am pretty used to lay offs though, seeing as how i work industrial construction, i always end up gettin laid off every few months or so. But good news is turbine season is almost here, which means big fast money

I just love it when things make so much sense.
I have gotten 4 quotes so far for engine shops to rebuild my engine.
The lowest rebuild quote i have gotten so far is 2300
i can buy a long block for 1800, and buy the new parts i need for upgrades for under the $500 dollar difference.
What the hell is wrong with this picture?

Labor... 'nuff said
still... the rebuild kit for the motor for everything is only $800 so another $1400 in labor? with the motor pulled, and the heads off already? with the cam out as well, and no oil pan. seems kinda outrageous.

Well with all that stuff already done...yeah
But you know body/auto shops...charging whatever they feel is "necessary"

Yup, so i have decided to keep my one i pulled out of the ex. to rebuild myself on a future date. And just go ahead an order a new long block from that place in north Carolina i found offering a 5 year, 100,000 mile warranty on them. For $1400 seems like the best deal i can find, and i haven't been able to find anything but good feed back on them.

I was bored the other weekend, and took the hood off the 87 and took it to bare metal, fixed the dents, and primmered it all up and threw it up on the 88.

The 77 is back on. And the B2 will be on hold for now. I just ordered a long block, built the way i wanted. Which takes care of 90% of whats wrong on it right now. As far as restoring anything goes, that can wait for a future date. And i just went and looked at the damage my friend did, and decided this bed is already messed up, so i shouldnt care, dents are part of wheeling after all.

I have deiced to go ahead and get the 77 back on the trails. Sadly my friend pretty much wrecked my truck about a year ago, and here its sat ever since. I would like to fix it up one day, but for now i am just going to use it as a trail rig. ALL BODY DAMAGE, and the BLACK door, are results of my friend.

I'm finally back to work steadily, and looks like i will be for some time. So its time to spend the money while i have it, instead of when i don't! With the ranger being only 60hrs away from finished, i figured it was time to revive some of my last projects. I'm starting a frame off on my 1970 f100(2wd, my first truck) and figured i might as well get the 77 back on the road for some winter wheeling! I have made some new friends with the People who are run Area Automotive( Has done some great machine work for me so far) so they have been cutting me some great deals for my continued business. The engine(400cuin or 6.6L) has either a spun rod or main bearing. Luckily i have come into a complete rotation kit! So the rebuild should be fairly painless considering the age of the truck, its all motor, nothing hard about it. I found i can get a rebuilt NP435 for it for a fair price, and like this option better than swapping it out from my 79 bronco(parts rig i think, haven't decided what i should do with it, its rusted to all get out though). I'll have to find a pedal assembly but that shouldn't be to hard as well as get some other essential parts for the conversion. Since the transfer-case will be out for this conversion i was thinking about making my 205 a twin stick, but i dont see any real benefits for it right now. Can someone help me out on that? Also since my bed is trashed more or less i ordered some steel for a flatbed a long while ago, but ended up using it on our barn for the horses  So i am back to needing to buy steel to convert for the flat bed. I think this might cause some issues with my aux tank and how they mounted it(was added after the truck was bought...now sure why they just didnt order the twin tank to start with...) but i will look more into that some time this weekend. The good news is the 77 has BRAND new 33x10.5R15 BFG KM's on it! That i still have yet to been able to test out. Also this truck might end up as Kateys DD, while we do some much needed repairs on the FJ60, the heater works GREAT, it had factory AC but the box was removed(i do have the boxes and condenser/ac compressor that will work on it somewhere around here) and i am not sure if i should just leave it or reinstall the system for kateys comfort. I am going to fix up the cab/front clip of the truck for her, as its not in bad shape but with a decent paint job could look a MILLION times Better. So i think that sums up the plans for this rig for the time being, but if anyone has suggestions i am more than willing to listen. Also if someone can explain the pros of the twin stick tcase  to me itd be great.

Good to hear you're working steadily, but you crack me up, Chris. "Only 60 hours away from being finished..." What is that in "days"? :)
By the way, you haven't been on a trail in a while. Saturday? Cleanup run?
