So on the way home from work (approx. 10:10)
Im on the entrance ramp to I-70 from Colfax and i start to fishtale to the left (where theres a ditch), think "oh ****" and correct it, goes straight....alright.
Then about 5 feet later, it starts to fishtale right (guardrail) think again "oh ****" and start to correct.....however this time, im like a foot from the rail and see it going sideways and then BAM hit it on the right corner.
Get out and check the damage, just a little bend in the bumper, nothing looks too bad.
So I just got home, im fine and everything...basically just bent the bumper from the frame rail to the end (dont think the frame got hit) and cracked the right signal a little (nothing major).
One thing i liked was the complete disregard for helping a fellow citizen. I'm sitting in the middle of the on-ramp, perpendicular to the guard rail, with hazards flashing.....this douche just drives right by at about 30 or 35 and doesnt even make an effort to slow down and ask/see if everything is alright...
Here's some pics.

Bummer. Were you in four-wheel-drive? Not that it always helps on slick roads, but the 40 was squirrelly today until I put it in high four.

Not when it happened.....i figured that the roads would be decent enough (pshhhhh.....im stupid) and then i couldn't move it from its location and had to put it in H4 to get it out.

I guess there is a little extra incentive to get a new bumper now though :D

Hehe, time for a new bumper!!
We had lots of folks helping others around here. Usually I grab the tow strap and help out too (some steep hills by my place) but had to pack and get ready to go.
Glad you're alright!

Glad to hear you are alright.
Don't be surprised though about people driving by. Last time it snowed, we were on the way back from taking our dog to the vet and I noticed a lady who had lost control of her car and ended up on the side of I-225 on top of a light pole that she slammed into and knocked over. About 50 cars in front of me did the lookie-loo thing and kept on going. There was one guy in front of me who stopped and had it under control before I could walk up, think he was dialing 911 before he came to a stop, a tow truck driver pulled up not long after. I remember walking back to the truck and noticing his Purple Heart plates, he was one of those few people who had been there and done that and obviously wasn't afraid to help someone, I was kind of proud to see him there.
Those that don't stop are probably the same goofballs who don't know how to change a flat, do you really want them around?:lmao:

when it starts to put snow on the ground, i always go 4wheel high. i make enough power to loose the rear wheels no matter what. lesson learned, you got 4wd for a reason, use it! Now you have a good reason to ditch the bumper and put a winch on it!
Glad you are ok bottom line!

if its safe for me to pull over and help i will, especially during winter as things can go from bad to worse with the cold etc .... my time isnt that precious compared to someone needing help

Whenever I see someone in that position, I usually park a ways behind them with my flashers on and walk up to see what I can do to help out. I figure that it is simply 'road karma', especially having been in the same position before. Some people never have and simply don't stop...may their legs grow together anyway...
If you can't do a new bumper, BTW, you should be able to wrap your bumper with some flat webbing (think climbing or hold downs..or even a tow strap) , anchor the loose end to something that won't move, and back up slowly. Take a hammer (a dead blow works great) and when you have pressure on the bumper, start swatting right where it bends. It should pull the bend out fairly well. It works best on a slight hill or you will need someone behind the wheel.

It may be time to redo the member help list. I have one in my glove box from last time Jon distributed it.

That was my feelings....especially when there is no winch on my truck (yet) to be self reliant in getting out of said ditch

Glad to hear your alright, i know what ya mean about the people not caring, i was broke down on i-25 for 3 hours back in November coming home from Wyoming in a snow storm. People now a days just don't seem to care. Hey at least there is minimal damage from what it could of been.

Hey I know I'm new here but, I work from home and granted whatever I'm working on is not urgent I would be happy to help...if you do update the help list soon, would it be rewarding to give people that kind of info "works from home"....if you haven't added that already of course. :-)

Howling Merfolk....what sweet justice it would be...you got my vote Mr. President!

To clarify things, the 'member help list' is simply a list of members willing to help other members on the trail or road in case of emergencies or breakdowns. It is, more or less, a 'if you are on the list, expect to get help from people who are also on the list, but if you aren't, don't get your hopes up' list.
Josh (HAKU) is the guy in charge of this and you just supply your name, contact information, experience, any medical problems, contact times, etc. It is pretty straight forward and you will get access information sent via email to you from Josh, as well as a copy of the list to keep in your car. We have done thins for awhile now and this is actually the second, updated revision.

icy roads are big challenge for me since i am not used to it so i put it 4 high and put three tube sandbag in back of the truck, might be overdo but safer than last dec when got in accident on black ice with 18 wheeler beside me. so i learn and still learning dealing with it slow down sometimes when i drove on colorado blvd from dacono to thornton for dart league, i drove like 35 and everyone passing mem, who cares i am learning !!!

Where is this list?
It doesn't exist any more. It proved to be too much trouble since some wanted to participate and some didn't. I think anyone interested may be able to revive the concept but I'm not.
I just keep a few phone numbers on my cell phone & a AAA card now.
