Anyone good with these? I've got no picture and no sound....It just displays "Welcome" on the info screen, disc tray won't open and it beeps every time I press a button....I took it apart and looked for BIOS reset pins but didn't find any, nor did I find any other sort of reset button. I pulled the RAM out and put it back in, to no avail....The damn thing is more of a computer than my computer is...Toshiba is useless, they asked me if I had another TV, I said now and they were silent for about 5 minutes, and had nothing more to say...It's out of warranty....Any suggestions? It's a Toshiba HD-A1...

Our Samsung HD went out a couple of weeks ago. No picture, no sound, no nothing. Just a blinking red light on the panel. It's only two or three years old, and I expect a TV to last at least 15 years.

Repair guy came out, knew immediately what the problem was and fixed (for $150, of course). Apparently, the company used cheap relays. Three of four were bad, so he replaced them all.

Not saying that's what's wrong with yours, but it might be something to check.

Alright. Originally it was just the video that was out, then sound went then it just kinda froze...I'm rather disappointed with it lol. Thanks for the input!

So is it one of the small DVD players that has its own screen? It might not even have relays.

No, it's a full size for a home theater9530

Ok. I was wondering why the Toshiba geek asked if you had another TV.

They wanted me to make sure the input was working on my TV. I told them I wasn't stupid and they didn't appreciate that much. I've got 2 HDMi inputs on my TV and an S Video, I tried it all and none of it worked with the DVD player, but it all worked with other devices. That wasn't good enough for them lol

Yeah toss it. The HD-DVD format is dead anyway. You need a Blu-Ray player!

For standard DVD's I would recommend a Panasonic. Always had good luck with them.

For Blu-Ray you might as well get a PS3 honestly. Though set top box blu-ray players are less expensive, it's not by a terrible amount. But I don't know if you care to do any gaming.

I know the HD-DVD format is dead, I'm not worried about that. I don't want a bluray, since it's damn near old technology already. I've done some research and I cang et a nice upscaling DVD player for under 100$. I even found a well rated blu-ray player for about $100. I was just hoping maybe it could be fixed so I wouldn't have to go buy another one. My cousin calls me a technology dinosaur, I don't like it for the most part. I want something durable and decent quality lol. Durable and electronics are not typically words associated together by companies though.

I doubt you could fix the current one.

Blu-Ray is going to be here for quite some time. I suggest the PS3 because of how easily it updates. And yeah regular DVD players with good upscaling are going to be more than $100, which is another reason I suggest a Blu-Ray player. Since if you're spending close to the cost of one, what's another $40-50 or so.
