Check out local tire places, usually very easy to find a spare for cheap.

I ran Switzerland Trail on President's Day from Sugarloaf to Sunset to Gold Hill. In the shade, there was 6-8 inches of snow with lots of tracks so pretty safe unless you're on street tires. However, if you weren't paying attention it would be pretty easy to slide off the trail and end up in a mess. In the sun, the trail was clear. Didn't see anyone the whole way. If in doubt, run from Sunset to Gold Hill.

Got bored today so I decided to head westward and familiarize myself with the area (Sugarloaf). I didn't actually do the trail as it was just me and my 4 legged co-pilot, not to mention it snowed a ton this weekend. Snapped a few teaser pics and thought I'd share...

Wow! Looks way different than when i was last up there. Gonna try to get two of my friends to go.
One has a first gen Ex and the other has a Pathy, both are afraid to go on trails but this one is so easy so i hope to be bringing two more rigs with me.

Ok, so, how are we doing? I'm really trying to make this one. Lisa has to work, but I might be able to take the Subie anyways. I also have a friend with an Xterra interested in coming, so, who's a for sure? And would we run this from Sunset, Gold Hill, or Sugarloaf?

CR
March 5th, 2010, 08:41 AM
I'm in.
I'll go ahead and take over the lead on this since Accordranger can't make it.
Lets keep the original meet spot and time for the southern folks. I will meet at the trail head because I am coming from Longmont. I'd say run from Gold Hill down to Sunset and back up the other side. I will be at the Gold hill parking area for this trail by 10:00am.
Please RSVP for this if you plan on attending.
I have a winch and recovery gear, the snow got pretty deep last weekend up there but the main trail was doable by almost any stock rig(6-10 inches).
Time for some fun!!:thunb:

CR, I don't know if we can make it up that early, but could possibly make it up around 11 or 12. Would you still wanna meet up if nobody else shows interest? I should know better tomorrow, whether my buddy will come (he said he would) and what my situation will be (Lisa has to work, but I'm gonna find a way to steal the car from her). Maybe we could call each other tomorrow and figure it out. I have a day off on Sunday, need to get out and do something :thunb:

Looks like I'll be able to make this after all. Whether I'll bring the Subie or not will depend on tomorrow, but my friend Al with his Xterra wants to come, so we'll be there for sure. Any possibility to meet at the trailhead between 10-10:30? I've gotta work Saturday night and it might be a bit hard for me to get going, plus the drives (Al is coming from Aurora, me from Brighton). I just wanna leave a window (say, if we're not there by 10:30, leave without us?). I'll call you tomorrow CR.
Also, I'll have my 4yr old daughter, and Al will have his two kids with him. We're thinking about doing some hiking and/or sledding too, just so the kids don't go :banana:

We're coming!!! No Subie :frown: but my friend Al is bringing another friend with a Land Cruiser so it should be fun regardless :thunb: There will be kids, so sledding and hiking is gonna be a part of our trip too (at some point) and anybody and everybody is more than welcome to join! I'm still waiting for CR to call me back, but we're planning to be at the King Soopers by 9:30 and go up to Gold Hill from there via Fourmile Canyon dr (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Canyon+Blvd&daddr=Boulder+St&geocode=FSibYgIdEvS5-Q%3BFWRPYwId9pm3-Q&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=0&sz=15&sll=40.018577,-105.261168&sspn=0.01502,0.027595&ie=UTF8&t=h&ll=40.029455,-105.325928&spn=0.120139,0.220757&z=12). I think that was the original meeting spot. Sounds like CR is heading straight to Gold Hill, though I could be wrong. I think he's talking about the parking area west of Gold Hill on 52 (it's on the left side) where Switzerland Trail hits 52. You'll go left from there to get on the trail. Taking the trail to the right is fun, but there's a long stretch that doesn't get much sun and drifts build up on the side of the hill. And the trail's really narrow there.
