I think they might have done something with that on Mythbusters too. If it can pop popcorn, wouldn't it then burn the side of your leg too?

It might have to do with the microwaves transmitted from all of the phones, if they were placed correctly it is possible that the microwaves were compounding instead of destructive and it might build up enough of a wave to disturb the corn. But thats a guess from left field

notice on none of the tables can you see under it. I bet you there is a heat source or something. The constructive phasing is clever, but in actuality it would take such specific placement and trial and error between all 4 phones to ever make them constructively merge in the very spot of the pop corn. Plus some kernels would pop and some wouldnt. you are talking probably millimeters of difference, or even fractions thereof by the time you have 3 or 4 phones to compound correctly. (I am an audio engineer by trade, same principals of sound phasing.) Same reason we often very specifically measure distances between subwoofers in an arena, as the slightest difference (in that case inch or so due to longer wavelengths) would cause phasing issues with some hotspots and some weak spots. I agree, I would love to try it, but expect it to fail. Would be very impressive if it succeeded though. Next trail run, someone had to bring popcorn.

You couldn't pop popcorn in front of a satellite antenna, so you sure as hell can't do it in front of a cell phone. 2 way satellite antennas put out way more power than a cell phone could even dream of.
You can, however, cook hot dogs in front of a microwave antenna(the LOS kind).

Go for the same thing with a mouse or gerbil. If the phones don't nuke them, the ring tones will drive 'em nuts...
