IMHO they are,
Fourth gen Mustang AND camaros are just super weak looking.
I don't see them as muscle cars.
Some people like them,
I'm not one of them. They're not good for racing either, when you mod them enough to get them raceable, (madeup word) they don't hookup, they have no traction and too much torque.
: )
My dad had one, and I thought it was ugly.
I just wouldn't use one, ever.

I could have some fun with you, but this isn't one of those forums, so I will leave it alone.
I had an 02 and had no problems hooking it up.

Ahah, No, I meant when you give it enough power to be a decent race car, it never hooks up. If it does. You just don't have enough power. They don't have enough anyways.

I said a 5.0 mustang engine.
I know i could put an exploder in it,
but its not the same as a mustang engine, which has more horsepower.

Okay, So I guess the Explorer 5OH has, more HP and Torque, but is still slower.
I want to go fast.
D:
I want something that'll eat rice.
If you know what I mean.
I want to beat some ricers ass at the tracks.
;)
LOL. Tracks.

If you are saying that an Exploder is slower than a Mustang, then you have to consider the weight and gearing of each vehicle. If the same vehicle is suddenly given more HP and torque, it is obviously going to be faster than before, all other factors the same.
Zatticus
April 29th, 2010, 11:27 PM
I've seen videos and time slips of rangers with mustang and exploder engines, the way the exploder is built, it's slower.
That article said the Exploder had more HP after they redid it, from the original 5.0 explorer engine,
Mustang is still faster,
I thought they would be the same too, until I started looking it up. It really isn't the same.

:lmao: This is almost entertaining. So if I did have enough power, I wouldn't hook up, but at the same time they just didn't have enough anyway, did I get that right?
I guess the 375HP I was getting wasn't race worthy.:frown:

Exactly.
;)
Ahah.
I've seen some that can race, like the saleens
Those are fast.
I just don't like 4th gen mustangs in anyway shape or form.
They're like flavored water. Theres no point, it shouldn't have been made, yet people still buy them and claim to like them.
Even though they're terrible.

Any 5.0L can be built anyway you want it. It doesn't come from where the block came from but were you take it too. That being said comparing a 5.0L in an explorer to a 5.0L in a mustang isnt fair at all. First off there are serious weight differences. Second there are different gearing situations for different goals. Third There are less drive train components in a Mustang than an Explorer. There is lost power through every component in your dirvetrain, the explorer having a T-case and the mustang not. If you took the explorer motor and put in a mustang, the explorer motor would out perform. A common mistake a lot of ricer type car builds make is thinking all they need to do is get that horsepower number up to go fast. But without a bottom end (TORQUE) you'll never get there. Besides Torque is far more useful, better acceleration and such.
As far as your statement about the 4th gen mustangs. The 4.6 "Stock" Verision that you would see running around in your GTs and such, Have 225Hp at the rear wheels. Which is the same as a stock 5.0L 3rd generation mustang. Now if you take it a step further and compare the 3rd gen 5.0l Cobra and the 4th gen 4.6 Cobra, the 5.0L puts out only 245hp, where as the 4.6 puts out 305hp.
As far as not hooking up, that can be from a couple of different things. Me personally i like being able to burn my tires, and have never had a problem with not hooking up. If you learn to drive it, with proper tire selection/ suspension set up you can get traction and hook up fine.
Now keep in mind, my first car was an 88 Mustang with a 5.0L(302) that i punched and stroked to 5.7(347cu in). The thing that really made that car so much faster than a stock 4th gen was the work i put into it. On top of the fact the 79-93 mustangs were the lightest mustangs ever produced. By a few hundred pounds meaning the same power pushing less weight made it go faster.
I'm by no means a huge fan of 4th gen, except the first 2 years (94-95) when it still had a 5.0L, but by no means is it not as good if not better than its predecessor, in several areas.
So i guess what i am saying over all is don't judge a book by its cover when it comes down to it. But actually read into and get the info before you judge it. The 4.6 Isn't without its flaws, but is still a good motor.
I was suggesting buying a '99 stang for the engine....not to drive. F that
The 4.6 swap is much more work than a 5.0L swap. The 4.6 V8's have a really tall deck height and are much more narrow, which all adds up to a lot more fab work. Also the after market support is great for the 4.6 but just ok in comparison to the market for 5.0L's.

Also These are stock ratings and fair comparisons....
1999 Mustang GT 4.6
0-60 In 5.5 sec
1/4 Mile 14.1
1993 Cobra Mustang
0-60 in 5.9 Seconds
1/4 in 14.5

And that's it in a nutshell, I had to consider the audience of the discussion though who thinks that stomping the skinny pedal wins races.

Hey Zach
You ever going to actually DO something with your Ranger? Just curious....as is most everyone else...What are we on now...post #500 or so?:D
Uhhhhh....I had a Lawn Boy lawnmower way back when that would turn about a 90 to 120 second quarter mile on stock rims. Does that count?

I had about 10 acres to mow when I was growing up and Dad had gotten this riding lawnmower. All was good until yours truly started to run nitro methane in it an see how fast it would go. Hey...worked for my (stolen...yeah, I was a bad child...) go kart, so why not...Blew it up, surprise, surprise and promptly got back behind the push mower...
Every time I remember stuff like this, I realize why I never had kids...

This is more or less what my end result for my truck is. Different customization, obviously. But something similar. I like his.
