Well I figured I'd start a thread for it, since i'm bored and excited all at the same time.

So I met with Pete today after a week or so of emailing back and forth about getting a winch bumper made for my cruiser.
Overall it's gonna be a universal winch plate, 3/16" plate for the front, with the rest being 1/8". It's also gonna have a small "stinger" hoop for light/radiator protection. The design is something I saw from Jim's work (SROR) and Pete made a good suggestion for increasing the approach angle.

I'll let Pete fill you guys in on anything more important.

BTW: Fabrication starts monday :D

Here's a photoshopped version of the SROR bumper it's gonna be based off of. (Pete did the photoshopping to show the increased approach angle)

While you're at it raise the bumper a couple inches which will help the approach angle too.

While you're at it raise the bumper a couple inches which will help the approach angle too.

Already in the works. The bottom of the bumper will be even with the bottom of the frame rails. Similar style to SROR, but set higher, with a lot better approach angles, and significantly lighter. All the heavy steel is going to be where it will be needed and the winch plate will not only be tied to the frame rails, but also tied into the front plate on the bumper, further strengthening the mounting. This is a very simple mod and ties in the winch with four more attachment bolts, locking it in place.

As usual, we will take and post 'build' pictures as we go. The bumper will be done Monday PM and stuff will be posted by Tuesday AM. The pictures will show an unpainted front as Matt is going to do this himself, but the backside of the bumper will have been painted.

I like the style, you should make 2 while you're at it. :D

Nice! I keep looking at the pictures of my Subaru and keep dreaming about something similar that would stay looking stock-ish. Maybe you (Pete) and I can get together sometimes and throw some ideas around? (hehe, wouldn't it be interesting to see Brody made bumpers on my Outback? :D)

Well I got back from Pete's about half an hour ago. This bumper is so clean looking. Basically went from "meh" approach angle to LOTS of approach angle. I absolutely love this thing. I'll get some pics in the morning as night pics would not do it justice.

Ill let Sean/Pete fill ya'll in on the process.

I also welded around the factory spring hanger mounts on the outside front where Yota simply stuck a couple of cheese stitch welds. Sean will post most of the pictures tomorrow as they are on his camera. Zach came by and got a taste of what fun cutting and grinding steel is like...Got a couple pictures of him doing the deed, too...

Yeah it's much more tucked up to the body than I thought it'd be, but it's great. I like how they did the mounting tabs for the lights. Can either mount em up above, or down below.

Here ya go, some of the build pics. It was a good build as Matt gave us a general idea of what he wanted, and we took it from there and incorporated some extras that we had in mind that we knew would make it a better bumper all around.

I thinking of ways to do something like that.

On the back bumper im gonna paint the swingarms red and keep the bottom black.

And im thinking of painting the middle part of the body (in between the upper and lower body lines) red eventually. I'm not sure, and im sure this is confusing but ill try and photoshop it to make more sense

Ah. Yeah ill have to play around with photoshop and see what I like.

I've always been a fan of Olive drab, but don't think it'd go well with red.

I think black with the red stripe would be pretty cool looking. Always been a fan of that color scheme

Chris
May 10th, 2010, 10:21 PM
Black & red looks good ;)

Mporter
May 11th, 2010, 02:05 PM
Yeah. I think that's what I'm leaning towards. I could just do the rest of the body in black bedliner

Zach idk if you saw my cruiser today...I parked at the church because of the AP test. I saw your truck was like 6 or 7 spots down

Mporter
May 11th, 2010, 02:46 PM
Here's what I just photoshopped of what the paint/color scheme i eventually want. i think it looks really good.

Before:

After:
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh27/shotgun12321/futurepaint.jpg

I'm thinking bedliner on the bottom half, and then just paint on the rest of it.....so it will basically just look like yours Chris (if you had the top portion painted black).

Chris
May 11th, 2010, 02:49 PM
Not too bad Matt, I'll be adding black to mine in the sections between the bottom of the windows and beginning of the roof when I have time. :thunb:

Mporter
May 11th, 2010, 02:52 PM
oh yeah...i also "tinted" the windows on the 2nd picture because that's on the list of 'to-dos'

Not a bad looking color set up at all. I like it! but the red and black would be cool too.

I'll eventually end up white and black. But i am, and always have been a huge fan of whites.

Yeah I'm a fan of the black and tans (tan paint with black tint/wheels/tires)
