Went out today, to see the BRAT had a flat tire on it. Since the spare that came with it is a joke(donut with the belts showing), I decided to head to CAP to pickup a full size spare for it. Blowing snow, mud everywhere, and quite cold. Took me a bit to find the correct size, but I did. And after a bit of struggling with the lugnuts(wheel was in the air, so it didn't want to hold still), finally got it off.
Although it was nice there was no one else there(maybe 5 cars in the lot), the conditions were far worse than what I would want to go back in. Now I just have to pull the flat off the BRAT, and fix it before Sunday.

Reminds me a skiing trip I took to Germany while stationed in Italy. It was the first day on the slopes where we got a couple of hours of instructions up front, then turned loose for the day. Well, the snow was coming down so hard that you could hardly see 100 yards down the mountain. Someone in the group expressed concern to the instructor about running into other skiers due to the near white out conditions. To which the instructor replied: we didn't have to worry about anyone else being on the slopes cause the Germans weren't dumb enough to be out skiing in those conditions.

Sounds like a great time...though the skiing sounds better..I was working half in and half out of my garage on Blue Moon Mobile's FJC all day yesterday. I had blowing snow swirling around in the garage and I felt like I was repairing some SnowCat in the Artic. My hands finally went ( I have nailed them quite a few times climbing ice and mixed rock and ice route, so they go fast) but I kind of ignored them until I finished cleaning up. I got back in the house and was going to start cleaning up and all of a sudden my hands started coming back to life....like YaHoo! back to life. So painful that I just grunted and dropped down on my knees in the kitchen. LaDawn didn't know what was going on until I managed to grunt out "hands....". This was that real fun pain that makes you nauseous, too. Been awhile since that has happened. Usually they come back to life without all the drama.
Last time my hands got trashed like that, we were trying to put up a new mixed rock and ice route up the north side of Quandry Peak. We had gotten quite a ways up the climb and I was leading a hard section and my hands had gotten tagged. It had been below zero all day and we weren't going to get sun...only wind and more snow...sporting..When my hands started coming back to life, I had to clip off to the nearest piece of gear I had stuck in. They hurt so bad, I was hanging there puking...
Love that winter time cold weather stuff....right..

Bernoulli's Principle (http://home.earthlink.net/~mmc1919/venturi.html) was in effect. I had to lean some plywood against a car to do my repairs. At least I got paid for that crap.
To which the instructor replied: we didn't have to worry about anyone else being on the slopes cause the Germans weren't dumb enough to be out skiing in those conditions. My best day skiing ever! We hit Mary Jane in the early spring. There was already 18" of fresh snow, with more coming down. After lunch, the snow was thigh deep with drifts up to my chest. There was no way to get any speed, just point the tips straight down and float through the snow. Falling would have sucked.
