This is the install and pictures of the Toyota gas tank skid plates I am going to be selling on my 94 Yota. Danny has the first one on his 4 Runner and I have been delaying putting the other prototype on mine for some reason..At any rate, I got tired of looking at it sitting under all of my scrap steel and decided to do something about it.

Since it was a prototype, I had to do a little tweaking, cutting and re welding to get what I had bent up to work. This is actually the last phase before production, so a bit of work was involved working out the bugs. What looked to be a pretty square plate is actually trapezoidal and some messing about was needed for clearance in certain areas, notably (on mine as I have the carrier bearing armor on) for the carrier bearing and where the factory e brake cable wraps around the tank.

Anyway, with that done, the holes were located both front and rear, steel was added or subtracted as needed, things were tack welded, the plate was removed, welded up, ground down, prime, painted and reinstalled with metric 8.8 bolts, replacing the softer factory bolts.

These plates give 3/16" of steel protection to the low hanging gas tanks on 4 Runners and trucks and will be in production and for sale within a month. Retail price is going to be (an estimated $239) including all new grade 8.8 bolts and hardware. Factory bolt holes are use. Unpainted. Front Range members receive a 10% discount.

That looks like it took some time? Kinda wild how well it fits.:)

This has been a project for awhile. I had some prototypes made, then found that I had to do some alterations before doing a production run. Still needs a hair more tweaking as the back of the tank is sitting a little lower than the front. When the production runs gets going, these will fit very well indeed.

About 2-3 weeks from an actual run. Danny has his year version of this on his 4Runner and has helped a lot with the CAD design that the fabrication company is going to use for the run.
