View Full Version : 2005 Ford Ranger

Hey all, I picked up a new 4x4 today. 05 Ranger XLT...4.0, 4x4, 5 speed. 33k miles. I love it so far! Its bone stock, but its kinda nice to have a simple truck, that is quiet and has plenty of power. My Bronco is loud and with the stock 3.55's and 33's, its a dog.

Best part about it all is, I think I can afford to keep my Bronco too.

Its too dark for pics, but I will post some tomorrow night after work. Stay tuned!

Yes, the seats are still a bit wet from being detailed. I picked it up last night, right before close. They were detailing it as I signed the papers.

Bit of an update here.

Since the last time I posted in this thread i've put in a couple sound systems and a CB radio. I've taken a couple sound systems out and replaced them with a small one. A single 10 inch Sony Xplode sub and a Kenwood amp. Its small, and convenient. I've also taken the CB out and put it in my Bronco. I will be getting a smaller Cobra CB soon for the Ranger.

I've also gone through a couple different toolboxes. First a black husky. Wasn't low profile, so I replaced that with my current low pro Husky box.

Also put on a 3 inch body lift today. Suspension lifts are just too expensive. Still rolling on the small tires, but in the next 3-4 weeks I will be putting on some Goodyear Kevlar MTR's or Goodyear Duratracs. And of course some new wheels.

Here are a few pics. I know most of you don't like to see your 4x4's clean, but I keep my Ranger that way. My Bronco is my wheeling rig. :lmao:

First system...much to big.

What are you doing wit the old subs, i have been wanting some.

96blkbeauty
September 19th, 2011, 10:14 AM
I actually originally bought the two 12's for my Bronco, before I bought the Ranger. Then when I started DDing the Ranger, I wanted a better system but could not afford to buy another. So I transferred the subs over to my Ranger.

Now the 2 12's are back where they belong, in my Bronco haha.

What size tires are you gonna run?

September 20th, 2011, 01:23 AM
I have someone from another forum who is interested in trading his 265x75x16 BFG AT's with 8/32nds tread for my 255x70x16 Goodyear RT/S's with 12/32nds. So his have about 50% tread, and mine have 75ish. Not sure if i'm going to do it or not. Might be worth it to run them for a few months, until I can save for some tires/wheels I want. On the other hand, I can just buy what I want in a few weeks, and sell this current tire/wheel setup for a good chunk of change. Any thoughts?

If I buy new, i'm going new 15x8 wheels. Thinking just some basic, but good looking, Micky Thompson classic 2's.

Also debating on tires. I'm leaning towards some Goodyear Kevlar MTR's or the Goodyear Duratracs. Not sure if I really want MT's. But they will be in a 33x12.50 size.

I also am wanting to do some dual exhaust on it. Probably going to go with the Flowmaster Super 44 muffler.

After I get tires, i'll have to decide on what I want to do with that stock tire hanging down. Along with the mud flaps and side steps. Only problem is, the mud flaps have sort of gouged a line in the paint.

I also want a headache rack. LOL

Congrats! I just got rid of my rear wheel Ranger, I loved it! It got killer highway miles (like 23), and was a blast to drive in the mountains! Just...not off road or in snow.

Enjoy :)

96blkbeauty
December 10th, 2011, 08:45 PM
Yes sir, good eye.

It does look better from those angles. However, from the side I believe it looks worse. Way too much frame showing from the body lift. And the frame needs painted, bad. I'll probably put the steps back on after I paint them up.

Maybe ditch the steps and build some strong rocker guards that bolt or weld to the frame and go the full distance between the tires.

As lame as it sounds, I have no intention of wheeling this truck haha. This is strictly DD status.

I'd like to save some money up to get some armor on my Bronco.

If I can find a set of step sides off of the newer Rangers, i'll go that route.

You could get some Trail-Gear sliders and have em poke out a little more, to use as steps. Then it's the best of both worlds

Here is the "stock" shifter.

http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr4/96blkbeauty/SDC10932.jpg

You can compare to the lvl2 shifter in my pic above. The FX4 lvl2 is just a model Ford came out with...kind of like XLT. They had the upgraded shifter...it looks better and has a slight bend to it. Its mostly just for looks...

Picked up a grill/brush guard for cheap today from another Ranger owner. I was real happy when I put it on...but after looking at my previous pics of how clean the truck is without it...i'm kinda second guessing it. I don't know, tomorrow i'll clean the truck up and see how I feel.

I had to trim the valence a bit to get it to fit so i'll have to get a new valence if I want to take it off. Plus after looking at these pics it looks like it can be raised up an inch or two more.

Put an exhaust on last week. Went with a flo pro super v muffler, single in, dual out to 2 4" chrome tips. Sounds great. I'm very pleased.

Also bought an XCAL2 and loaded a LaSota Racing 91 Performance tune. The exhaust and tune really made a difference. The truck almost feels like it did before the tires and wheels.

Not a whole lot to report. Put a CB in it. Have a nice set of Hella 500's I need to mount on the brush guard or behind the grill. Need to get that done

Plans for this for the summer:
Wire up the dang 3rd break light on the topper as well as some interior topper lights.
06+ Ranger side mirrors
06+ Ranger Badges
Set of sliders
Maybe some LED's on the inside to brighten it up a bit
Also maybe a set of HID's for the headlights and fogs
"Alon" mount for the CB antenna

I'm also really missing the look of the truck without the topper. But the topper is so useful! Especially during camping season. Here are a few shots up at my buddies land in Wyoming...right near Lake Hattie.

My day lighters are nice. I got some clear covers for mine. I like clear because I can turn them on whenever I want and not have to get out to remove the covers first. I'm probably going to supplement them with a flood light of some kind too. The Daylighters are good spot lights, but at low speeds on the trail, you need to area right in front of you lit up- and spots don't do that very well.

There was also a guy on the Explorerforum selling vinyl covers with all kinds of custom designs.

KC lights have a 23 year warranty. I've heard of people buying them used with no receipt and sending them back to be refurbished.

I think I got my lights and covers at Pep Boys. I wasn't finding them much cheaper online and I think they marked down at PB.

Excellent. If you would have seen the lights that came with the grill guard, I do believe you wouldn't have bothered with them either. They were beat beyond recognition. I don't know if they were KC lights or not, but they looked similar.

Sean, i'm doing well. Living over off of 120th and Claude Ct in Northglenn...have been for the last year. But my lease is up March 31st. I just signed a lease today for an apartment over near Flatirons mall in Broomfield.

Sold the Bronco in June (you probably know that). I miss it, no doubt...but I've been keeping busy enough that I don't think about it much.

I got the KC's at Autozone for 110 bucks.
