Do you think it's possible to drop one in a car that has a standard Automatic Transmission?
How much work would it take?

My standard answer to my son was: "With enough time & money anything's possible" and I think I'll start using that for you Zatticus.
My question would be "Why?"

Its a matter of making an adapter, and then figuring out how to connect the electrics, control it, mount a new steering wheel, gear shifter, and modifying the body to fit a different tranny. None of those things sounds particularly cheap nor easy to me. On top of that, you have to find a takeoff one, or be able to afford a new one. To really get it done right, you'd need the whole donor vehicle and while you are at it might as well swap the engine over too. For all of that work and cost, you could probably buy a vehicle that has it in it already. I know a bunch of VW's and Mitsubishi's and other cheapish brands have them now, and the Double Clutch versions aren't much more then the manual versions.

X2 on what Chris said, but here is another option:
Borrow a sazall.
Buy one metal blade.
Cut out floorboard of vehicle in front of driver's seat.
Buy cheap set of felony flyers.
Sit in seat. Place felony flyers firmly on ground. Move feet in direction you want to go.
:D:D
Saves money on tranny, double clutches or any of that other noisome stuff....Alas, though, you are still 2FD. Do the same for the passenger side and you will be 4FD....

Sounds ovverly complicated. And I'd much rather have a car that already has it in it if I really wanted it.
