So, I started fly fishing back in November, Reese aka Roo, found out about it and told me he had been wanting to learn also. This week he emailed me asking about my opinion of some waders he found and I suggested he get them and he could join us on the Colorado on Sunday. Saturday we spent the day at Bass Pro and Dick's getting him the essentials to get started. Reese has a brother that 8 years go dropped some coin on a G. Loomis rod and reel for a trip that he never went on, the rod and reel ended up in Reese's garage, so he was set there, he picked up a pair of boots, a few flies, some leaders and some tippet and off we went.

I was joking with Reese on the way out and called him a hillbilly with him being from Kentucky, I told him not too worry b/c I am a redneck from Texas.

The water was murky from the run off and rain the day before.

Anyway, we got to the spot and rigged Reese up, he started off much the same way I did thinking it was a spin cast rod and you needed to muscle the casts, I told him to stop acting like a Kentucky boy and limp wrist his cast, we shadowed him for a short amount of time and before we knew it he was laying out a dead drift and he caught his first fish on a fly rod:

A few more casts later he landed his second fish:

It took me 3 trips to get to the point Reese is at now, looks like he's a natural at it.

Here's my two, the second I thought was a snag when I went to set the hook, so I began the effort of trying to free it and he came flying completely out of the water. This was a first for me, because I caught him on one of the flies I tied.

This is the master here, we couldn't keep up with the picture taking on his end, I think he caught well over 10.

Watching him drift and cast is really cool to see.

It was a really good day out on the water, Reese did awesome his first time out and I think it's safe to say, he's hooked.

That looks like some fun. I threw my line out yesterday and caught a tree. Next time I through it out I caught an FJ (see the Left Hand Canyon thread).

Thats something I wouldn't mind learning.

I think the second picture is the one that says "hooked", good job!!!

Is it that obvious? LOL.. I am totally hooked now and can't quit thinking about it. I have always loved fishing and started at the age of 3 but had never gone fly fishing until Sunday.

It took me 3 trips to get to the point Reese is at now, looks like he's a natural at it.

I still have a lot to learn as you know and I think it was more to do with you and Jeff giving me pointers and Jeff guiding us to a couple of good spots.

Man I love it! Colorado gets better every day I live here!

You guys need to check out the Gill Trail area just before you get to FS 211 on the way to Deckers via Pine Junction/Hwy 285. Cheeseman Reservoir is he southern end of that trail, so you can access it either way. Very cool scenery and supposedly very good fishing. Close by, too.

Another area is the south fork of the South Platte. Take Foxton Road just past Conifer and when you get to the Platte River, go left. Fishing all along here.
