SCRubicon

I've been busy the past couple of days/evenings helping my friend Eric with getting his Rubicon ready for wheeling this summer. The first things on the agenda were new tires and wheels. You’ll notice there isn’t a spare on the back – thanks tire shop for that boo boo – I won’t name names. Eric went with 33x12.50x15 Goodyear Duratrac rubber - $155.00 per tire – not bad for new tires. The wheels are 15x10 Series 98 style steelies.
Next, Riddler diff covers. Not too hard to do, but the locker actuator brackets gave us small fits of anger until we reamed out the mounting holes. They just didn’t want to bolt up with the new diff covers. Strange. I did notice with the cover we put on the back that the outside edge did not come all the way down even with the differential housing. Quality control issues perhaps? My Riddlers went on easy peasy when I did them 2 years ago.
On to the next project - longer brake hoses. This was going amazingly well until I noticed the front coil springs were not seated properly. W.T.H.? Eric’s coil spring retainer clips were gone! Not good. We drooped the suspension then reset the coils. Finished up the brake hoses, bled the system and called it a night.
The next day we were off to the auto salvage yard (Colorado Auto & Parts Inc. 2151 W Radcliff Av, Englewood) to get coil spring retainer clips. There were tons of Jeep vehicles to scavenge off of. We even grabbed extras. While there I spied an IH Scout with lots of good parts still on it. Also found an early civilian CJ that was converted into a dune buggy type machine. Back to my house double quick time.
Coil spring retainer clips now on – one last small task – JKS sway bar disconnects. I have to say, JKS makes a quality product. Simple to install and they disconnect/reconnect like a dream. I only wish we had more time to take the Jeep out for a test run in the dirt.
