Front range wheelin this weekend?
I wish I could join the Chinamans route but it's too far for me, so I'm just seeing if anyone is interested in something closer this weekend. Weather looks to be mild and although options are limited I'd love to get out for a few hours at least, Sat or Sun.
Im up for any suggestions so let me know who wants to get out this weekend!!!
thanks, Matt

PICKLE GULCH ??
Frank and I might be going Switzerland pass Friday or Saturday
PICKLE GULCH??
:D :smokin: :steer:
Re: Front range wheelin this weekend?
Pickle is going to be shady and slippery, might wanna do something like Gordon, Switzerland, Bunce/Ironclads - these all will have more sun. I'm not opposed to slippery and snowy but I have a feeling that's all Pickle will offer. Thoughts??
Re: Front range wheelin this weekend?
Yeah I know you're right about that. Switz is always mellow but yet pretty, even a little fun too.
Re: Front range wheelin this weekend?

How about that rebel, Matt ?
By the way..............Happy Birthday to the little man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dry St Vrain ??
Ironclads sounds so intimidating >>>>
Bunce sounds really bouncy<<<<<<

this one is easy but really pretty and quiet and close to Lyons. Bunce is just 5 miles up the hill from Dry and on the P2P hwy. Ironclads is pretty challenging but totally doable for both of you -I've done it a dozen times in my RAM ;)
Re: Front range wheelin this weekend?
Bunce isn't any bouncier than other routes, the name just sounds like "bounce". Lol

I was feeling like a joker, really just anywhere is fine with me, you guys decide where to go and I will tag along !!
Re: Front range wheelin this weekend?
What about Spring Creek? Is it open? The description I read says it stays open later than most trails..... I've never done it and it's not that far away..... Have you done this one Phillip?
Re: Front range wheelin this weekend?
I don't think I've ever been there
What ever you wanna do
Re: Front range wheelin this weekend?
I've never explored any of the trails just south of Idaho Springs, Spring Creek looks quite challenging and Spring Gulch and others (Cascade creek, Trail creek, Saxon mountain) look easier. Curious if anyone has wheeled on these roads? These are pretty close to Senver so probably fairly popular......
just trying to find something new but close....
Re: Front range wheelin this weekend?
I'd enjoy frolicking around those for mentioned areas !!
Finding different trails that would be new to some sounds AWESOME
I contacted an old dear friend of mine in the Conifer area he said most of the Jeep trails there have been lost to development
But he also mentioned around Baily, down highway 43 would be some forestry roads and highway 126 through Pine to Buffalo Creek
I do not know the status of the area as to weather or not any are open or how many would be impassable But theres a couple more ideas
I'm game for and pumped up to go somewhere this Sunday 1/7/18
Re: Front range wheelin this weekend?
How about just going up St Mary's Alice rd, hitting the back side of Yankee Hill ??
Real nice hill climbs and plenty of awesome views.....
Re: Front range wheelin this weekend?
I wouldn't want to go up St Mary's, if I'm going to drive that far it would be to do Spring Creek or Silver Mine or something on the southern side of I70. I think I'm just "thinking out loud".... LOL, sorry for that.
Maybe we should just stick to the original plan and look at the BUNCE/IRONCLADS and/or DRY ST. VRAIN.... and if JP is interested we could do MILLER ROCK too (these 3 are all within 5 miles of each other)
Re: Front range wheelin this weekend?
Didnt see this thread, before i posted pretty much same thing. Ill check back in.
Re: Front range wheelin this weekend?
Hey Adam, I saw your post too. We haven't really nailed down a route and was curious if you're familiar with the trails south of I70 near Idaho Springs: Spring Creek, Silver creek, South Spring Gulch, Cascade Creek, Griffin Mt & Woodchuck spur, Saxon Mt. I know some of these are probably closed but most are open year round depending on snow. Here's a link to the most challenging one that shows the others on the map also. This wouldn't be that long of a drive for me to get to (1.5 hours) and I haven't done any of these and would be down for checking any of them out (not just the hard one)..... I've done all the trails north of I70 and was trying to think of something new that isn't 3 hours just to get to ;)
