    Default Prestige Chrysler Dodge Longmont

    Avoid at all costs

I had my starter fail early this spring. When I took it in they wanted to do a diagnostics on my 2012 JK.

Besides the starter they said the passengers rear axle oil seal was bad and had to be replaced. I told them no. That axle has had a seep since the vehicle was 3 months old. Was told it was not bad enough to be covered by warranty. I had noticed no change in it, and confirmed when I brought it home.

Additionally they said who ever last changed the transfer case fluid had “stripped the fill plug and we don’t know how we are going to be able to deal with it.” Since I was the one that last changed changed said fluid I was certain I had not stripped it. I knew the allen socket was a tiny bit buggered. I was concerned they may have stripped so today I replaced it with a new one. No issues. Below are photos of the “stripped” fill plug.

Messed up but in no way stripped so bad that I don’t know what to do.

This is why I do everything I can on my vehicles. Especially my new Jeep, no way would I bring it to dealership for oil changes or anything else that I can do quickly and know that it was done right.

That’s too bad. Thanks for the warning. I’ve previously had good service there (when I had to use a dealer) and they didn’t try to up-sell or BS me. Maybe they got a new service manager, or the owner told them to increase service revenues.

YIKES! I make fun of the gorillas working in the oil change shops tightening everything beyond reason but that's ridiculous!

I hope you send those pics over to their service manager and ask for a replacement. I'm in Longmont and probably not far from you if you ever need a hand.

I had the same fill/drain plugs on the TJ. I think theyre a really bad design and I was stripping them out a little bit more each time. Last fluid change I replaced them with the good ol fashioned giant 30 mm plugs like YJ had! Very happy

I replaced it with one from champion. Same design bot uses a 15mm socket which is much bigger than oem.

I'm glad that's all they messed up. My gripe was with Autonation in Lakewood. I'm really not at all impressed with Jeep dealerships. To be fair, it's probably a pretty miserable environment with productivity pushed above quality, if I had to take a blind guess.

I and previous mechanics messed it up. They claimed it was stripped so bad they didn’t know what they had to do. In other words they were trying to screw me on a simple plug replacement. It came right out with no issues.
