    Default Hey There From Boulder

Grew up here in Boulder Colorado in the 90's and after three decades moved back.

So now with a big built Jeep 42's locked, 1 tons etc. I'm used to fairly reasonable OHV
usage laws other places I've lived in MI, UT, NM, TX. It seems like most every trail I
used to use locally has been shut down. I know, welcome to the peoples republic of
Boulder County. Montrose, Cortez, Penrose, Rangely and Blanca seem to be still relatively
accessible but is there anything open closer? On X has been fairly good but still marks trails
    open when they're closed.

Just looking for some good areas relatively close where the towns and 4 wheel drive groups
are welcoming to the off road
community and there are some challenging trails.

    Thanks!

I've built it in a fairly stout manner over the years, everything has it's limit though, you have to have yours too.

My favorite trails? Well Colorado Montrose is pretty fun Calamity, Boulder Canyon and the whole Independence trail system.
Crystal Mill, Devils Punch Bowl, Black Bear Pass, Holy Cross is always fun as well as Yankee Doodle Lake for a nice cruise.

NM, Rockatillo, Tabasco Twister, Patzcuaros Revenge and Broad Canyon is nice. Up North around Caballo, NM
    The Bone, War Path.

UT, Moab of course name a trail and it will be a blast! North around Park County there are a lot of good trails as well.

MI, Drummond Island by far, great off roading! The Upper Peninsula, Midland, Saginaw and Traverse City have some good spots.

Welcome! Nice rig. From Boulder there's a few close trails that should keep you entertained but most are seasonally closed or snowed in. Check out Spring Creek, Red Elephant, Chinaman/Yensing/Carnage, Iron Clads, Kelly Flats. 42's and locked theres nothing in the area I can think of that you won't be able to handle

Thanks! Yeah, she drives pretty easily although the hard terrain takes a bit of finesse and slight skinny pedal persuasion. I know that area, just West of Idaho Springs around Empire and Kelly Flats. Yeah, that sketchy cliff driving trail to the old Red Elephant mine with sunken buildings in a lake. From the looks of it, at All Trails, that's become more safe these days. It used to be you would scuff rocks off of the cliff with the sidewalls of your tires. Good suggestion, there are a TON of fun old mine trails to explore there.
