"Why do so many cars and trucks get stuck on sketchy passes in the Rockies? We asked state officials, tow truck drivers, and even college professors to weigh in."

    Classic "ass clown"...

Wayne Barger, owner of Animas Towing & Recovery in Southwest Colorado, this summer rescued a Penske truck moving furniture over Ophir Pass—a high alpine route between the towns of Silverton and Ophir.

This went around our Jeep forum, frustrating. I still need my Black Bear badge, I hope they open it next year. There are too many people on these trails that don’t care enough and are being taught there are no consequences for their actions.

I’m all for people getting out and exploring, trying something new. But, they gosh darn well better not be an idiot doing it and ruining it for everyone else, (cough cough Moab).

RV in the Big Thompson river.

I wonder if a semi-truck class wrecker (long & strong winch) was used to pull it out?

Me and the wife rode the bike past that. It was just after it happened. The recovery didn't start yet.

Geesh, I've seen that kind of thing too. Some people in these modern vehicles advertised on TV blasting through rivers, sand dunes or whatever think they're invincible. In reality they're literally driving a one wheel drive vehicle with only ABS traction control. Shoot, I even saw a modern Range Rover with a crudely cut hole in the hood for an engine intake snorkel! Man, not to be braggy but I've driven through rivers past the rocker panels flooding the foot wells and not rolling on 20" Pirellis. He had his traction boards strapped to the roof in case there was an unforeseen pot hole up ahead though. Just fake people getting themselves in WAY over their head off road.
